Apollo 11 was the spaceflight which landed the first humans, Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on the Moon on July 20, 1969, at 20:18 UTC. Armstrong became the first to step onto the lunar surface 6 hours later on July 21 at 02:56 UTC. A third member of the mission, Michael Collins, remained alone in lunar orbit until they returned from the surface about 15 hours later. All three astronauts returned to Earth safely after travelling in space for 8 days. and today on August 25,2012 we lost him so in his honor here are a couple of videos. This one was done back in 2009 for the 40th anniversary of his walk on the moon.
i don't know what is sadder , the fact that he has died or that his death was merely a short story on the news ( at least here ) it seems more people talk about prince harry's naked arse than one of mankinds true heroes !
the space race was probably the only good thing the cold war has ever created ( if you don't count rocky 4 that is )
A great memory was brought back to me this morning when i heard the news of this American hero's death. To be the first to step on the moon is beyond anything I can imagine I was 10 when that great day came sitting there in class you could hear a pin drop..And now I remember the b/w t.v. with the antennas on it The three foot kind.....It brought a tear to my eye to hear of his passing,a true legend in my time and yours. Even as a child I remember feeling so patriotic when that happened and the Russian space program was certainly humbled that day It was the greatest achievement of any human I can think of honestly...To take that chance and actually do it....Sorry I am babbling Darren, but a memory like that is never forgotten. And yes I was in love with my teacher, she was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing that my friend~
A very sad day! I remember watching the mission as a kid. I was only 7 but was totally fascinated! At that time I was a nerd...my heroes were astronauts....he was a true American hero! Part of the greatest achievement of mankind! Raise a glass to Neil!!!! We'll miss you
